With travelers’ increased interest in visiting Africa, the continent’s safari and “bush and beach” locations are being seriously considered by lovebirds for their honeymoons.
The United Nations World Tourism Organization noted in a January 2026 report that in 2025, international tourist arrivals in Africa recorded the highest percentage growth among regions, compared to Europe, the Americas, the Middle East, and the Asia Pacific. And while travelers’ interest in visiting Africa develops, a separate report offers insight into why, for couples, certain destinations and experiences in the continent are particularly attractive for a honeymoon.
Which Destinations Are Couples Interested In?
In a March 2026 Wedding & Honeymoon Trend report, Fora Travel noted that when it comes to honeymoons, “safari continues to lead bucket lists.” The source further highlighted that “South Africa, Kenya, and Tanzania – often paired with Seychelles, Mozambique, or Zanzibar – [are] topping demand.” Additionally, safari honeymoons were described as a “favorite” recommendation of travel advisors.
The agency made the claims based on its booking data from March 2025 compared to February 2026. The company says that within that timeframe, it saw Fora Travel bookings increase by 295% for Kenya, 287% for Tanzania, 150% for Seychelles, and 112% for South Africa. It also considered information from its February 2026 Survey of Fora Advisors.
Why Choose A Honeymoon Destination In Africa?
A honeymoon in an African destination can be a prime and enriching experience for travelers from all over the globe. However, doing so can be even more impactful for those of the diaspora.
A honeymoon in Africa for people of Black and African descent offers unique opportunities they won’t find anywhere else in the world. For many, visiting one or more African countries during their post-nuptial bliss can be a romantic twist on a homecoming.
Some of the best ways to spend your honeymoon days on the continent include visiting places tied to your ancestry, soaking up incomparable natural beauty, and diving into local customs, attire, and food. Africa is the most culturally diverse continent in the world, so even picking one major city in one of its 54 countries offers the chance to plan a heartfelt itinerary filled with things to learn, see, do, taste, and hear. And beyond its natural biodiversity and cultural experiences, you’ll find hospitality options ranging from budget to luxury — remote mountain villas, winery estates, and intimate Bedouin desert camps among them.
